The term Content is used to refer to pages, articles, listings, and other items within the Energy.gov Content Management System.

Main Content Types

Article

Articles are best used for time-sensitive content like news, press releases, or blog posts. Articles expose a date and can be included in a dynamic listing. Learn more in our article on the Article content type.

Event

The Event content type may be used to create an event to display in a Calendar Paragraph on your content. An event includes location, start date/time, and end date/time information. Learn more in our article on the Event content type.

Homepage

The content type is used to build homepages for Energy.gov and any subdomain homepages, program offices, labs, etc. It is not necessary to build a local version.

Listing

Listing nodes can be used to automatically curate content based on assigned filters. The automatically curated content that appears in listing nodes may be used to populate dynamic listing paragraphs. Learn more in our article on understanding listing nodes. For details on creating a Listing node, see our article with step-by-step instructions. To learn more about populating your Listings using filters, see our article on Taxonomy. Finally, to learn more about configuring your listing content to appear dynamically on other content, see our article on Listing Paragraphs.

Page

A page is similar in look and feel to an Article, but contains relatively static content. A page does not expose a date and cannot be included in dynamic listings. Learn more in our article about the Page content type.

Helpful Hint

Your ability to create certain types of content is limited based on the roles assigned to your CMS account. To learn more, see our article on Roles & Permissions.

Additional Content Types

Contact

The Contact content type may be used to identify a person or office contact responsible for a program, idea, or initiative and any associated content.

Person

A Person node may be used to display biographical information for a contributor or leader. Learn more in our article on the Person content type.

  • Please note: If you plan to create a new Person node and have the appropriate permissions to do so, please be sure to carefully check the Content library to ensure that a Person node does not already exist for that individual.

Photo Gallery

The Photo Gallery content type may be used to create an interactive slideshow or images. Reference a photo gallery node within a photo gallery paragraph type. Learn more in our article on the Photo Gallery content type.

Pivot Table

A pivot table is a node with facets and search using data tables. Upload a .csv file to the CMS to display your data on your Pivot Table node. Learn more in our article on the Pivot Table content type.

Podcast

Podcast nodes may be used to create a single podcast episode with transcript, audio files, and other data necessary to generate an iTunes compatible podcast feed item.
