DOE/EA-2264: TerraPower, LLC’s Kemmerer Unit 1 Preliminary Activities, Lincoln County, WY

Summary

The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) are requesting public input on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for TerraPower, LLC’s Kemmerer Unit 1 Preliminary Activities, Lincoln County, WY (the proposed project). 

DOE is proposing to authorize the expenditure of federal funding by TerraPower to conduct preliminary activities for the Natrium Reactor Plant, Kemmerer Power Station Unit 1. Activities would include but are not limited to site preparation, non-structural backfill, trailers, construction of multiple buildings, installation of underground services, laying foundations, installation of stormwater management ponds, locating portable bathroom facilities, establishing temporary power, and constructing temporary parking areas. 

DOE will be the lead federal agency in the preparation of the EA. 

What’s New

July 2024 - Pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has determined that an Environmental Assessment (EA) is required to inform a decision on whether to provide federal funding to TerraPower in support of the Kemmerer Unit 1 Project. DOE welcomes your input on the proposed scope of the project on or before August 15, 2024.

October 2024 – DOE released the draft EA (DOE/EA-2264) on October 21, 2024, for a 30-day public comment period. The comment period closes on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.  DOE will host one public meeting on October 29, 2024, at the South Lincoln Training and Events Center in Kemmerer, WY from 4:00 to 7:00 PM MST.
