October 19, 2022It is an exciting time at the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) as we strive to deliver on Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm's rallying cry to "deploy, deploy, deploy." OTT's ongoing efforts to bring innovative, clean technologies to market are central to executing both long-term and immediate goals for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Biden Administration. In this transformational time, we are thrilled to welcome several new team members to OTT.

Dr. Kyle Fricker, Commercialization Program Manager
Dr. Kyle Fricker works with DOE program offices, national laboratories, and industry to develop and manage technology-agnostic funding programs and activities seeking to bring impactful energy technologies to market, with a specific focus on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act portion of the Technology Commercialization Fund.
Before OTT, Kyle served as technology manager on the Manufacturing and Competitiveness team within DOE's Solar Energy Technologies Office. In that role, his portfolio included projects that support entrepreneurs developing new solar products and programs that strengthen innovation ecosystems to accelerate the commercialization of early-stage energy technologies. He also led programs to scale up new approaches to expand affordable solar access to previously underserved populations.

Sid Garman, Commercialization Program Manager
Sid Garman supports the Technology Commercialization Fund and Energy Program for Innovation Clusters. He previously worked for nearly seven years in the technology commercialization industry working with a variety of clients. The primary focus of his efforts has been in the acquisition or sale of technology to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Matt Hill, Budget Analyst
Matt Hill is responsible for budget policy development and maintenance; budget process planning and development, budget formulation, development of management-level budget presentation requirements; coordination of budget execution analyses; maintenance of budget databases for budget formulation and execution activities for control purposes; and, analyses of program submissions and various statistical analyses of varying appropriations to ensure sound management control processes are implemented.
Matt previously served as a budget analyst for the Department’s Idaho Operations Office where he was responsible for the budget execution of $962 million in Infrastructure Facilities Management, Safeguards and Securities, Naval Reactors and 14 other HQ Program Secretariat Offices.

Rebecca Szymkowicz, Commercialization Program Manager
Rebecca Szymkowicz works with DOE program offices and national laboratories to develop and manage innovative funding programs and activities working to bring impactful energy technologies to market. She joined DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) in 2015 where she worked on EERE’s Technology-to-Market and National Lab Impact teams within the Office of Strategic Programs, working to help promote commercialization of clean energy technologies, and within the Bioenergy Technologies Office, supporting a variety of projects.
Immediately prior to joining OTT, Becca supported DOE’s Water Power Technologies Office’s Innovation & Commercialization team, working to promote the commercial potential of marine energy technologies and next generation hydropower and pumped storage systems.

Jasmine Towner, Commercialization Program Manager
Jasmine Towner supports the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Technology Commercialization Fund. She previously worked as a contractor with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Laboratory (ARL) where she facilitated the development of intellectual property agreements between ARL and industry, academia, and local and foreign governments.
Prior to working for ARL, Jasmine worked as a biology research assistant, investigating the identification, behavior and regeneration of freshwater and land planarians.
