This set of user training videos results from a user training workshop demonstrating how to assess the effectiveness of a project’s/program’s implementation of their earned value management system using the Integrated Project/Program Management (IP2M) Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (METRR). The IP2M METRR is a novel assessment mechanism developed as part of a DOE-sponsored joint research study led by Arizona State University and representing more than fifteen government and industry organizations. This training series introduces the IP2M METRR attributes and factors, its purpose and benefits, and walks the user through how to use the software version of the tool.
Session | Title | Description | Length |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Introduction to the Integrated Project/Program Management Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (IP2M METRR) using EVMS | This first session introduces the IP2M METRR tool, which is the result of a DOE-sponsored Joint Research Study led by ASU and representing 19 government, industry, and academic organizations. The research team members are 41 individuals who have diverse backgrounds including owners, contractors, consultants, academia, and so forth. | 04:42 |
2 | Overview of the IP2M METRR and its Performance Implications | Maturity and environment scores resulting from the Integrated Project/Program Management (IP2M) Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (METRR) using EVMS were found to be significantly correlated with the performance of the project or program being assessed. This session then discusses the logistics around facilitated assessments conducted using the Integrated Project/Program Management (IP2M) Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (METRR) using EVMS. It also presents an overview of the software developed to facilitate the use of the tool. | 36:36 |
3 | What is EVMS Environment? | This session defines EVMS environment, as well as its 4 categories and 27 factors. Each factor has an agreed-upon description and items to consider during an assessment. Factors are assessed on a scale of 5 levels. | 21:23 |
4 | Workshop A: Evaluating EVMS Environment | This session presents a case study project assessment, in which the participants are asked to consider the facts and produce their own environment evaluation and gaps. Then, a recorded discussion of multiple teams is presented, reporting out on the case study assessment and findings around EVMS environment for the project at hand. Workshop A handout - IP2M Environment | 27:33 |
5 | What is EVMS Maturity? | This session defines EVMS maturity, as well as its 10 sub-processes and 56 attributes. Each attribute has an agreed-upon description and items to consider during an assessment, complete with a maturity table and clear descriptions of each maturity level. | 31:28 |
6 | Workshop B: Evaluating EVMS Maturity | This session presents a continuation of the case study project assessment presented earlier, in which the participants are asked to consider the facts and produce their own maturity evaluation and gaps. It also includes a recorded discussion of multiple teams reporting out on their case study assessment and findings around EVMS maturity for the project at hand, followed by an assessment of the whole project, now that both environment and maturity have been assessed. The intent is to simulate a real-life scenario where practitioners are using the tool to benefit their projects. Workshop B handout - IP2M Maturity | 32.14 |
7 | Summary, Guidance, and Wrap-up | This session provides a summary of the training and the learning that occurred, as well as guidance and recommendations to practitioners using the tool to assess and improve their projects and programs. | 14:45 |
8 | Course Evaluation | This final session provides a link for participants to conduct a short course evaluation and provide feedback to the instructors. | 00.51 |
