Milton Judson "Jud" Lilly receives the award from the DOE Chief of Staff, Christopher Davis. | For demonstrating exceptional leadership and project management as the Federal Project Director of the $373 million On-Site Waste Disposal Facility CAP 2 and the $160 million X-326 Demolition projects. His exceptional budget and schedule management, steady project direction, and consummate professionalism to further the Portsmouth Site cleanup and the Department of Energy Environmental Management mission was demonstrated through a strong safety culture and the successful execution of field work that resulted in an atmosphere of excellence and pride in work performance across the integrated project team. Mr. Lilly delivered outstanding value in the completion of capital asset projects below expected costs and significantly ahead of schedule while overcoming pandemic related challenges. |
DOE Project Management Excellence AwardIntegrated Engineering Research Center (IERC) Project |
Steve Neus, Federal Project Director, accepts the award from the DOE Chief of Staff, Christopher Davis along with Gary Brown, SLI Program Manager, and Brian Rubik, IERC Project Manager. | The new IERC facility at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is evidence of the Department of Energy’s commitment to becoming the world hub of neutrino research, incorporating climate change resiliency features while maintaining a cohesive and complementary aesthetic with the iconic stature of Wilson Hall. The project team proactively approached COVID-19 response protocols and were able to minimize impacts to successfully deliver this $86 million project within budget and 13 months ahead of schedule. The Department commends the project team for their project management excellence in achieving extraordinary results on a vital Office of Science project. |
DOE Project Management Achievement AwardCore Facility Revitalization (CFR) Project |
Timothy Maier, SLI Program Manager, accepts the award from the DOE Chief of Staff, Christopher Davis along with Cheuk Kwok, Federal Project Director, Peggy Caradonna, CFR Project Director, and Steven Cannella, CFR Project Manager | The CFR Project at Brookhaven National Laboratory is the new home of the Scientific Data and Computing Center, which supports researchers across the country and around the world including international experiments such as ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider in Europe and Belle-II in Japan. The 59,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, energy efficient data center repurposed a previously contaminated, former accelerator facility. The project team navigated COVID-19 shutdowns and completed the $75 million project within budget and ahead of schedule. The successful completion of this project resulted in a fully operational, world-class data center for vital international research collaboration. |
