The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the Gas Technology Institute Energy (GTI Energy; Des Plaines, IL) to utilize an infrared-sensor-equipped sorting technology at Idaho National Laboratory (INL; Idaho Falls, ID) for the purpose of creating an artificial intelligence (AI)-based sorting algorithm for sorting non-recyclable municipal solid waste (NMSW).
