Summary
Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) jointly prepared DOE/EIS-0315 to analyze the potential environmental impacts of the Big Sandy Energy Project, a proposed generating facility that would interconnect with WAPA’s existing Mead-Phoenix 500-kV transmission line near Wikieup, Arizona. The proposal included a high-pressure natural gas pipeline, a permanent access road, and water supply wells and pipelines that would cross BLM-managed lands. After WAPA and BLM issued a draft EIS, the applicant changed the proposed project; WAPA and BLM prepared a supplement analysis. The EIS was cancelled before issuance of a final EIS.
