DOE/EA-1680: Engineered Geothermal Enhancement System Demonstration Project; Lake County, California

Summary

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), with DOE as a cooperating agency, prepared DOE/EA-1680 to analyze the potential environmental impacts of providing partial federal funding for a proposal by AltaRock Energy, Inc. and the Northern California Power Agency to deepen an existing injection well within the BLM managed Geysers Management Area to harness produced steam as energy in Lake County California. The proposal included the creation of an engineered steam reservoir system through the expansion of existing rock fractures to convert injected water into steam.
