The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a portion of Battelle’s Project Cypress Regional Direct Air Capture located in Calcasieu Parish and Caddo Parish, Louisiana. DOE proposes to authorize the expenditure of federal funds to Battelle Memorial Institute to facilitate the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and eventually decommissioning of a portion of Project Cypress. Project Cypress would accelerate commercialization of, and demonstrate the processing, transport, secure geologic storage, and/or conversion of, carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from the atmosphere.
