The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to International District Energy Association (IDEA) to analyze performance data collected from existing district energy (DE) systems in order to develop a series of best practices and recommendations for 1) integrating combined heat and power (CHP) and microgrid systems;
2) integrating renewable, intermittent energy sources and thermal energy storage (TES); and 3) enhancing cybersecurity for DE systems. The project would be completed over three Budget Periods (BPs), with a Go/No-Go Decision Point in between each BP. This NEPA Review will be applicable to all three BPs.
