The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the University of Florida (UF) to develop novel materials for solar hydrogen (H2) production. Candidate materials would be analyzed and assessed in terms of their hydrogen production potential, relative to the inputs needed for production. The project would seek to identify and synthesize materials/compositions with enhanced performance efficiencies as compared to the current state of the technology (i.e. increased solar to hydrogen efficiency and decreased operating temperatures). The project would be completed over two Budget Periods (BPs), with a Go/No-Go Decision Point in between each BP.
