The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Oregon State University to undertake a data sciences approach to drilling optimization based on machine learning-aided expert systems in order to reduce the risk of well failure and the overall cost of geothermal energy, particularly for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS).
