The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Western Michigan University to develop technologies that utilize enzymes and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) to enhance the high yield kraft pulping process. The goal of these technologies is to reduce the chemical consumption and thermal energy required for the pulping process while also increasing pulp yield.
