Since during operation of the 105-K KIS Vault uses compressed gas nitrogen and carbon dioxide as part of the process, potential gas leakage and asphyxiation is a concern. Based on a engineering calculation, active ventilation is required to preclude asphyxiation by both gases and the development of above-limit carbon dioxide gas concentrations. Therefore, this modification considers the installation of an oxygen and carbon dioxide monitor and alarm system in case of accidental release during time of ventilation. This is an additional layer of safety regarding possible gas releases.
