The DOE Office of Science is the sole source of support for this project. Sealed Optics Company, Inc. proposes a novel method of joining materials to make robust PFC components made of tungsten and RAFM steel for next generation fusion reactors. The proposed project consists of bench scale research, in which coupons of RAFM steel and tungsten are joined in a high vacuum furnace by this proposed process, evaluated for microstructure and bond strength, and compared for robustness to panels joined by conventional high temperature braze alloys.
