March 22, 2019The U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Material Management and Minimization, proposes to provide financial assistance to the State of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to perform regulatory compliance inspections, radiological material emergency response, and public outreach in support of the shipment of Foreign Research Reactor Spent Nuclear Fuel to the Savannah River Site. This financial assistance helps protect the public by ensuring there is adequate communication, coordination, and response of South Carolina emergency responders to a transportation event involving the shipment of spent nuclear fuel. South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control would coordinate directly with other essential state agencies regarding training for local first responders and monitoring of shipments into and through the state.
