The Radioactive Scrap and Waste Facility at the Materials and Fuels Complex provides interim storage for spent nuclear fuel, remote handled mixed low-level waste, and other radioactive wastes. The Radioactive Scrap and Waste Facility stores materials in gravel-filled 16” diameter by 12’ 4” long by ¼” thick carbon steel pipes (e.g. liners) that are welded shut with a shield plug or plate.
