Idaho National Laboratory conducts irradiation experiments in the Transient Reactor Test Facility for the purpose of assessing the performance of instrumentation and various fuel types. Idaho National Laboratory leads the planning, design, and analyses of Transient Reactor Test irradiation experiments in coordination with institutions that develop various fuel concepts. Idaho National Laboratory performs transient irradiation experiments in Transient Reactor Test and coordinates post-irradiation examination on the irradiated fuels. Idaho National Laboratory ships the irradiated fuels from Transient Reactor Test at the Materials and Fuels Complex to Hot Fuels Examination Facility, Neutron Radiography Reactor or Irradiated Materials Characterization Laboratory. Although the majority of the post-irradiation examination is expected to be performed at Hot Fuels Examination Facility and supporting laboratories at Materials and Fuels Complex, selected samples may be shipped to other hot cell facilities or laboratories for complementary or additional examinations, contingent on the availability of an acceptable shipping cask/container. If samples are shipped off-Site, this environmental checklist must be revised.
