Develop environmental barrier coatings to enable silicon carbide/silicon carbide ceramic matrix composites from 2400 degrees Fahrenheit to 2700 degrees Fahrenheit, and, eventually, 3100 degrees Fahrenheit, to achieve required durability under advanced engine operation and environmental conditions.  The goal is to handle combustion gas temperatures in 3100 degrees Fahrenheit plus range while remaining the silicon carbide ceramic matrix composite substrate around 2400-2500 degrees Fahrenheit.
