The MacroAlgae Research Inspiring Novel Energy Resources Program seeks to fund the development of technologies to enable the United States to become a leading producer of macroalgae, or seaweed, for use as a biofuel to improve U.S. energy security and economic competitiveness. The MacroAlgae Research Inspiring Novel Energy Resources Program is composed of 18 small-scale research and development projects that will be conducted by universities, non-profit entities, for-profit entities, and federal laboratories.
