June 11 through June 12 Interregional Transmission Operational Coordination

On June 11 and June 12, 2024, the Grid Deployment Office and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) held the first in a series of Interregional Transmission Operational Coordination workshops to discuss how to increase the efficiency of high voltage transmission and develop new methods for scheduling and coordinating transmission across different U.S. energy markets.

As part of the Grid Deployment Office’s Interregional Transmission Operational Coordination Project (IRTOC), these workshops examine electricity market inefficiencies, such as interregional transmission congestion and inefficient dispatch of generation, that could prevent the United States from achieving the full suite of benefits projected by the NTP Study’s long distance transmission project scenario.
