On May 8, 2004, at approximately 11:00 am, an exothermic metal reaction (exothermic reaction) accident occurred during heating of surplus activated sodium shields at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP). The work activities were being conducted by personnel of Commodore Advanced Sciences, Inc. (Commodore), a teaming partner with Toxco, Inc. (Toxco).
