Vehicles and fuels topped the lists of waterborne imports arriving in the United States by value and weight, respectively, underlining the importance of the maritime sector to transportation and the economy overall. Motorized vehicles ranked first by value at just over $170 billion. By weight, crude petroleum was the top product brought through seaports and motorized vehicles also ranked high on the list. There are many categories of products listed that support the transportation sector either directly or indirectly such as transport equipment, electronics, metals, plastics and rubber.
