September 25, 2023The Environmentally Extended Input-Output for Industrial Decarbonization Analysis Tool (EEIO-IDA), currently in beta version 1.0, is an Excel-based scenario building tool that allows users to conduct rapid “what-if” analysis based on user-defined industrial decarbonization assumptions. EEIO-IDA is a top-down, economy-scale model that represents the U.S. economy with 71 unique subsectors (25 of which are industrial sectors). The EEIO-IDA tool can be used to explore and visualize Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for these 25 industrial subsectors. The tool has a 2018 base year, consistent with the most recent Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey and Manufacturing Energy and Carbon Footprints.
Adjustable parameters in the EEIO-IDA tool align with the decarbonization pillars of DOE’s Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap. Users can build decarbonization scenarios in the tool by modifying assumptions related to:
- U.S. Electric Grid Mix
- Fuel Mix & Electricity Use by Subsector
- Inclusion of Biogenic Emissions
- Energy Requirements by Subsector
- Non-Energy-Related (Process) Emissions by Subsector
- Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage by Subsector
- Product Demand Change by Subsector
EEIO-IDA also provides base-case (2018) Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for each of the industrial subsectors included in the model. Base-case data for the industrial sector are summarized in the figure below.
Download the EEIO-IDA Tool Overview & All Industrial Subsector Emissions Summaries to learn more about the tool’s functionality and see detailed base-case emissions breakdown results for the 25 industrial subsectors in the model.
EEIO-IDA INDUSTRIAL SUBSECTOR EMISSIONS SUMMARIES
IEDO has prepared Industrial Subsector Emissions Summaries for each of the 25 industrial subsectors included in the model as supplementary resources to accompany the release of the EEIO-IDA tool. Results visualize the Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions information for that subsector using base case EEIO-IDA data for 2018. These results for the 25 individual industrial subsectors are available through the links below. To download results for all industrial subsectors, click here.
