Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting Registration Now Open
Registration for the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program 2018 Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting (AMR) is now open. The AMR will be held June 13–15 in the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, D.C. Information about the meeting, including a preliminary program and hotel and travel details, can be found at the AMR website. For the first time, other federal agencies, in addition to all relevant DOE offices (including the solid oxide fuel cell [SOFC] program) will participate. All meeting participants, including presenters and reviewers, must register to attend this meeting. An early-bird discount is available for participants who register by April 30, 2018.
U.S. DOE Hydrogen Prize Winner Exports Innovative Small-Scale Hydrogen Refueling Appliance to Japan
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) recently announced a collaboration on hydrogen and fuel cell safety research and development data sharing to accelerate progress in hydrogen technologies with mutual goals of energy security, resilience, and economic growth. In the spirit of this collaboration, DOE's Fuel Cell Technologies Office is proud to announce that SimpleFuel, winner of the $1 million H2 Refuel H-Prize, is exporting one of the world's first hydrogen refueling appliances to Japan. Fact of the Month #18-03: More than 235 MWs of Fuel Cell Stationary Power in the United States
There are more than 235 MWs of fuel cell stationary power serving more than 40 states in the United States. These fuel cell back-up power systems provide electrical power to vital services like digital communications networks, advanced medical therapies, financial transactions, and bank operations during natural disasters. Based on successful installation of 900 DOE cost-shared emergency back-up power systems, we are tracking over 7,500 backup power units being purchased or on order by industry without any DOE funding. Webinar March 28: Electrospinning Fuel Cell Electrodes to Improve Activity and Durability
FCTO presented a live webinar titled "Electrospinning Fuel Cell Electrodes to Improve Activity and Durability" on Wednesday, March 28. Vanderbilt University's Peter Pintauro provided an introduction to electrospinning techniques and explained how a DOE-funded electrospinning project is helping improve electrode and membrane activity and durability. The webinar covered the project's approach to fabricating membrane electrode assemblies with nanofibers via electrospinning and provide an update on results, technical barriers, and accomplishments. The webinar concluded with a Q&A. Slides and a recording from the webinar will be posted soon.
