Washington, D.C. –  The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced 26 selected projects for the FY23 Fall Energy I-Corps program, which offered an additional funding track this year. Since launching in 2015, Energy I-Corps has demonstrated immense success in training researchers with a framework for industry engagement to and inform a culture of market awareness within the labs. New this year is a post-curriculum opportunity.

“The expansion of the Energy I-Corps program provides further promise that we can further embed commercialization and entrepreneurial activities within DOE’s National Laboratories  which will ultimately improve upon delivering clean energy technologies into the private sector,” said DOE Chief Commercialization Officer and Director of the Office of Technology Transitions Dr. Vanessa Z. Chan.

Topic 1 invited proposals from National Laboratories, Plants, and Sites for programs and projects aimed at increasing participation in future EIC training cohorts (Topic 2). Ten projects from ten labs were selected for this topic.

Topic 2 continues the historically offered immersive training curriculum for Cohort 17. The 11 teams composing Cohort 17 will participate in an intensive program to understand market awareness and learn about market pathways for their technology. Researchers define technology value propositions, conduct stakeholder discovery interviews, and explore viable market pathways for their technologies.

Topic 3, in its inaugural rollout, will support Topic 2 graduates with a high likelihood of commercializing their technology. The funds are intended to cover costs of the next actionable step in technology commercialization to facilitate the 5 selected teams in reaching their next source of more substantive support to continue their commercialization journey.

See details about the 26 selected teams on our Energy I-Corps Cohort 17 webpage.
