This series profiles the directors of the Department of Energy Office of Science User Facilities.
These scientists lead a variety of research institutions that provide researchers with the most advanced tools of modern science including accelerators, colliders, supercomputers, light sources and neutron sources, as well as facilities for studying the nano world, the environment, and the atmosphere.
Here are those stories:
-
Richard Buttery is director of the DIII-D User Facility, the largest magnetic fusion device in the United States.
-
Ilke Arslan is the director of the Center for Nanoscale Materials user facility, where understanding everything starts at the nanoscale.
-
Gina Tourassi is the director of the National Center for Computational Sciences, leading world-class computing infrastructure programs and projects.
-
Ken Andersen is the associate laboratory director of the Spallation Neutron Source and the High Flux Isotope Reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
-
Director of the CEBAF user facility Andrew Hutton’s love for accelerators started at age 17.
-
Sergei Nagaitsev is the director of the Fermilab Accelerator Complex user facility.
-
Chuck Black is the director of the Center for Functional Nanomaterials.
-
Mark Palmer is the director of the Accelerator Test Facility at DOE's Brookhaven National Laboratory.
