Research on R&D for Next Generation Nuclear Physics Accelerator Facilities

$2.7 Million Awarded for 10 projects

Projects from the Research and Development for Next Generation Nuclear Physics Accelerator Facilities FOA will help lay the groundwork for next-generation accelerators and for potential upgrades to existing facilities. The facilities provide scientists with beams of charged particles, which are essential for conducting experiments aimed at understanding the building blocks of atomic nuclei.

The selected awards seek to advance the state of the art in accelerator technology by increasing operational cost-effectiveness and enhancing the scientific capabilities of accelerator user facilities. View the Funding Opportunity announcement.

Earth System Modeling

$8 Million Awarded for 13 Projects

The goal of the Earth and Environmental Systems Modeling portfolio is to develop and demonstrate advanced modeling and simulation capabilities in order to enhance the predictability of the Earth system over multiple temporal and spatial scales. This award supports development of the marine biogeochemical simulations in the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM); hierarchical modeling, simulations and analysis using Earth system models to enhance the understanding of biogeochemical (terrestrial and marine); aerosol and cloud interactions and feedback; novel methodologies and techniques for model initialization, coupled data assimilation.
