Office of Science Selections from Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) for the Week of August 21, 2024
August 21, 2024Bioimaging Research and Approaches for the Bioeconomy & the Environment
Supports fundamental research to enhance resolution, speed, stability, sensitivity, or chemical specificity of bioimaging and sensing technologies. Quantum-enabled research is included. Two subtopics are supported: novel research concepts proceeding through technical validation; and innovative experimental prototype research proceeding through hypothesis-driven biological experimentation. All applications will advance biological knowledge of plant and microbial systems for a bioeconomy.

Science Accelerator Stewardship and Accelerator Development Programs
Particle accelerators provide unique sources of light and particles that support the research of thousands of scientists worldwide. The DOE Office of Science Accelerator Stewardship and Accelerator Development programs (ARDAP) support use-inspired basic research and development (R&D) on accelerator technology that advances science, healthcare, the economy, and our security, and supports public-private partnerships to strengthen domestic suppliers of accelerator technology. The awards in this announcement are working to solve some of the most challenging problems in medical, industrial, environmental, and security applications of accelerator technology.

Training the Next Generation of Nuclear Data Evaluators
Nuclear Data Evaluators are subject matter experts that assess new and old experimental data, theory, and computational methods to determine the best accepted values for properties of nuclear structure and reactions. Due to retirements and increasing demand in nuclear data, there is a need to increase the evaluator workforce. Awards under this FOA will train four new evaluators to bolster the workforce and include a summer school for in-depth training in specialized topics among the cohort of trainees.
