Steve Capanna is the Director of Technology Policy, where he oversees a portfolio focused on identifying strategies that will accelerate development and expansion of the advanced energy technologies necessary to achieve our long-term strategic national energy goals. Prior to rejoining DOE in the fall of 2021, Capanna worked at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), where he led EDF’s energy innovation portfolio. He was previously at DOE from 2011 to 2019, where he was Director of Strategic Analysis in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Capanna earned his M.A. in International Energy and Environmental Policy and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
