Matthew Grosso has been with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) since mid-2009. He currently serves as the director of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO). Before becoming director in October 2024, he served as WPTO’s operations supervisor beginning in December 2015.
As director, Grosso oversees the research and development of advanced technologies to transform U.S. hydropower and marine energy into clean, affordable, and domestically-produced power. Before joining WPTO, Grosso supported DOE’s Office of Electricity and the Energy Information Administration. Grosso holds a master’s degree in public administration from Florida State University.
