Michael Massello is a Senior Small Business Advocate with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). As a Senior Small Business Advocate, he analyzes and interprets contracting policies and provides guidance and assistance to program offices across the Department. Michael has a total of 22 years’ experience in government contracting and 10 years of that have been dedicated to advocating for Small Business.
Prior to joining the OSDBU, he began his career with Defense Logistics Agency, in Philadelphia as a Contracting Officer. He then became the Supervisory Procurement Analyst (Chief of Staff) for DLA Aviation Philadelphia, where he served as the head of Contract Review and Policy.
He moved to the Small Business and Competition Advocate role within DLA Aviation Philadelphia, as that became his passion while serving the Chief of Staff. Michael was awarded the Excellence in Subcontracting Award, from the Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs.
He followed his passion for small business, and moved to the Small Business Administration (SBA), as a Procurement Center Representative (PCR), where he reviewed acquisitions for 10 major contracting activities and reviewed over 3 billion dollars a month in requirements. He also served as the Area Wide PCR for Region III, which covers the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.
Michael is DAIWA Level III certified; he received a Bachelor’s degree in History and Education from Rider University.
Michael lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia, with his wife and dogs. They have 4 grown children, and 3 Grandchildren. He is an avid sports fan, enjoys camping and travel.
