Background Information    

On December 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) opened applications for up to $1.8 billion to provide direct air capture (DAC) technology and project developers with support at various stages on their commercialization path towards the realization of four regional DAC hubs. DOE may not award the full funding amount in the first round of applications; as funds remain available, DOE expects to issue additional re-openings to support the program’s strategy.  

Eligibility  

The following entities are eligible to apply: industry stakeholders, including any industry stakeholder operating in partnership with National Laboratories, institutions of higher education, multi-institutional collaborations, non-profit and for-profit entities, tribes, state and local governmental entities, and both incorporated and unincorporated consortia.

Topic Areas and Funding 

This funding provides support for projects that catalyze commercial scale-up of DAC technologies and related infrastructure and provide the greatest positive benefits to communities. 

This funding opportunity has three topic areas (TA), with up to a 50% federal cost share for each award:   

  1. TA-1: Infrastructure Access Platforms (IAP). Up to 3 awards, each up to $250M federal share  
  2. TA-2: Mid-Scale Commercial (MSC) DAC Facilities. Up to 8 awards, each up to $50M federal share  
  3. TA-3: Large-Scale Commercial (LSC) DAC Facilities. Up to 6 awards, each up to $600M federal share
