Brian Mahar

Brian Mahar is the Director of Engagement for the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) at the U.S. Department of Energy. In this role, he leads OCED’s strategy to engage with a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver clean energy technology demonstration projects at scale in partnership with the private sector to accelerate deployment, market adoption, and the equitable transition to a decarbonized energy system. Brian has nearly 20 years of experience engaging with public and private stakeholders on deploying clean energy. Prior to joining OCED, Brian worked as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) on communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and outreach and business development. Prior to joining DOE, Brian worked for a clean economy marketing and communications firm, where he advised clean energy businesses and trade associations, as well as environmental campaigns. Brian began his career as a legislative and communications aide to U.S. Representative John B. Larson from his home state of Connecticut. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the College of William & Mary.
