Background Information
On Nov. 14, 2022, U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for up to $350 million for emerging Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) demonstration projects capable of delivering electricity for 10-24 hours or longer. This FOA seeks LDES demonstration projects that will validate new technologies, enhance the capabilities of customers and communities to integrate grid storage more effectively, and sustain American global leadership in energy storage. DOE will provide financial assistance through cooperative agreements to fund up to 50 percent of the cost of each project with the intent to catalyze impactful LDES demonstrations. The program aims to fund projects that will overcome the technical and institutional barriers that exist for full-scale deployment of LDES systems with a focus on a range of different technology types for a diverse set of regions.
