Background Information
On Feb. 23, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for up to $1.7 billion for integrated carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects that demonstrate substantial improvements in the efficiency, effectiveness, cost, and environmental performance for power and industrial applications. DOE will provide financial assistance through cooperative agreements at up to a 50% federal cost share for up to six transformational commercial-scale, integrated CCS demonstration projects designed to further advance the deployment of technologies to capture, transport, and store CO2 emissions. This FOA will fund two projects at new or existing coal electric generation facilities, two projects at new or existing natural gas electric generation facilities, and two projects at new or existing industrial facilities not purposed for electric generation.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include industry stakeholders, including any industry stakeholder operating in partnership with National Laboratories, institutions of higher education, multi-institutional collaborations, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, Tribal Nations, state and local governmental entities, incorporated Consortia and unincorporated Consortia.

Funding
OCED expects to make up to six awards between $230-350M each with a maximum of up to 50% federal cost share.
DOE anticipates issuing a third carbon capture FOA in the future for projects that are still performing FEED studies and other early project work and will not be ready to apply to this FOA.
