Welcome back to Minute With Mike! In this series we bring you installments of conversations between Director Erin Whitney and Senior Advisor Mike McEleney on recent international engagements, history, and energy innovations in the Arctic.

In July, the U.S. Department of Defense released their 2024 Arctic Strategy. This document refreshes their approach and goals to working in the region, which were last issued in 2019.

"This strategy is very action oriented, which distinguishes it from previous Arctic Strategies" Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arctic & Global Resilience Iris Ferguson said. "We unpack where we need to sustain our investments, especially in critical capabilities. What do we have to see? How do we communicate? Do we have the right equipment to operate in the region? My office exists to champion these capabilities, which are vital to the successful implementation of our strategy."

Listen to this Minute With Mike to hear more about the drafting and release of the strategy, how it intersects with the Arctic Energy Office's work in the region, and get a tip on where to get a good lunch at the Pentagon!
