Announcing Dr. Avi Shultz as the New IEDO Director

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) announced today that Dr. Avi Shultz has been selected to serve as the Director of EERE’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO).

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) announced today that Dr. Avi Shultz has been selected to serve as the Director of EERE’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO). 

As IEDO Director, Dr. Shultz will be charged with spearheading IEDO’s mission to accelerate the innovation and adoption of cost-effective technologies that eliminate industrial greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Shultz will lead a team of 80 passionate clean energy champions to find innovative solutions to industrial emissions and help the nation transition to a clean energy economy. In his new role, Dr. Shultz will also lead IEDO’s coordination and collaboration with DOE leadership and interagency partners on key issues related to the U.S. industrial sector. 

For the past year, Dr. Shultz has served as IEDO’s Deputy Director. He has been instrumental in establishing IEDO’s unique identity while coordinating with Department-wide efforts on industrial emissions reduction, steering the office’s strategic direction, and leading office-wide goal setting to position IEDO for the greatest impact across America’s industrial sector. 

Previously, Dr. Shultz was the program manager for concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP) for the DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO). Dr. Shultz has been with DOE since 2013, where he started as a science and technology policy fellow.
