Funding Source
With funding provided by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA 50143), the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC) manages programs to accelerate electric heat pump manufacturing in America and support the transition to electric vehicles, retooling existing plants, and rehiring existing workers. Limited to applicants seeking financial assistance for up to 50% of the cost.
Funding Details and Announcements
As part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda, DOE has announced $1.5 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act to support the conversion of 10 shuttered or at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities across eight states—Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia—to manufacture electric vehicles and their supply chain.

DOE is partnering with five states with significant automotive workforces to help small- and medium-sized suppliers invest in updating and upgrading facilities to serve growing vehicle markets. States will use a variety of approaches to make these awards to eligible facilities. DOE and States will each provide funds to support projects that will bolster local manufacturing capacity and strengthen vehicle supply chains.
