Funding will support the project team's small-scale research and development of a thin film interfacial pulsed heating defrosting system combined with a controlled surface wettability coating, that enables de-icing by melting of only an ultra-thin layer of ice/snow/frost (approx. 100 micrometers) with the aid of gravity or shear forces (e.g. wind).
