The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Mosaic Materials to develop an improved manufacturing process for ultra-high capacity sorbent to be used in direct air capture systems. Once the optimal manufacturing process is identified, it would be scaled-up following the installation, commissioning, and validation of a pilot manufacturing line which would be used to create larger batches of sorbent materials. Techno-economic analysis and lifecycle assessment modeling would be used throughout to assess sorbent manufacturing, its impact on direct air capture costs, and net CO2 removal rate.
