The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the University of South Carolina to develop efficient carbon dioxide-natural gas refinery technology for ethylene production with renewable electricity as the energy input. Project participants would design, develop, fabricate, and test symmetric metal-supported solid oxide cells to electrochemically convert methane to ethylene.
