The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to authorize the administration of a prize competition known as the Conductivity-enhanced materials for Affordable, Breakthrough Leapfrog Electric applications (CABLE) Conductor Manufacturing Prize (Prize). Through this Prize DOE seeks to identify, verify, and reward new materials and manufacturing methods that achieve significant enhancements in electrical conductivity. There are three proposed stages under the prize. Currently, only Stage 1 rules have been established. Official rules for Stage 2 and Stage 3 will be released prior to each stage, therefore a review of potential impacts associated with those stages is not possible at this time. Additional NEPA review will be required once the rules for subsequent stages are released.
