The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the State of Arizona to replace parts of the heating, ventilation, and air condition system that have reached their expected useful life with more energy efficient equipment at the Arizona State Veterans’ Home in Phoenix, AZ. Specifically, the cooling towers, condenser pumps, air dirt separator, interconnecting piping with valves and fittings, and the controls would be replaced. The existing natural gas boiler would remain and be connected to the new piping system for freeze protection. Metal components that are removed would be sent to a recycling facility. All the proposed activities would occur in the fenced-in mechanical yard, with no ground disturbing activities.
