After DOE/EA-1607 was issued in 2009, technological advances such as new centrifuge systems and laser enrichment technologies lowered the cost of production compared to gaseous diffusion. These improvements in efficiency would result in an additional 225,269 metric tons of DOE's inventory of DUF6 to be considered economically recoverable (from the 0.35% assay level considered in the EA down to the 0.25% assay level). DOE prepared a supplement analysis to DOE/EA-1607 and determined that the changes to the proposed action were not substantial changes that are relevant to environmental concerns, and that no further NEPA review was required.
