In this amended record of decision, DOE/NNSA announces its decision to use the dilute and dispose method to disposition up to 7.1 MT of non-pit plutonium as contact handled transuranic (CH-TRU) waste at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico. Conversion to oxide may be performed at either Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico or Savannah River Site (SRS) in South Carolina.
