The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) for the design and construction of a power conditioning system (PCS) converter with Silicon-Carbide (SiC)-based medium voltage power conversion technology. The PCS converter would have a three-phase operation and would focus on building efficiencies under nominal power conditions, and demonstrate compliance with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers codes. Modeling and simulations would assess anticipated performance. Cybersecurity would be evaluated to identify vulnerabilities and threats, and to develop mitigation and counter-measures.
