A treatability study will be performed to inject natural artesian groundwater from two nearby production wells in D-Area into the upper water table upgradient of the D-Area Coal Storage Area and Coal Pile Runoff Basin.  The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness to flush out the acidity from the aquifer. To prepare for the implementation of this study, actual flow rates from the production wells, PW-3D and PW-136D, needs to be determined. SRNL will modify the lines as necessary to perform that test and will direct the production well discharge  to the engineered ditch/wetland area roughly 100 feet away. Testing is expected to take one month with various flow rates so that a system curve can be determined.
