February 28, 2019In 2017, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control approved the use of humate amendment activities as a corrective action activity using Southern Sector Recirculation Well SSR-001. The humate amendment injection activities began on July 11, 2017. Since the injection activities began, Savannah River Site has reconfigured the above ground piping, added a food grade antifoam, redeveloped SSR-001, etc. However, the injection capacity of the SSR-001 has continued to diminish. Therefore, Savannah River Site ceased injection activities and developed a revised strategy for evaluating humate amendment as a possible corrective action. On December 17, 2018, Savannah River Site and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control discussed this revised strategy (refer to SRNL-TR-2018-00319.pdf). The revised strategy includes the installation of an additional well (SSM040CC) and redevelopment / conversion of two existing wells (SSM001B and SSM037B). These three wells will be used as injection wells.
