Categorical Exclusion Determinations: Naval Reactors Facility Site

Several buildings at NRF will need to be modified in order to establish the VTRs. The modifications include replacing access doors, installing electrical and communication infrastructure, installing vestibules outside of select buildings, and installing secure lockers to store portable electronic devices.

The Naval Reactors Facility Transporter Transfer Path General Plant Project will replace the existing hydraulic lifting machine transfer pathway with a new transporter transfer path.

The scope of the Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) Control System Upgrades/Modifications to the Cask Shipping and Receiving Facility (CSRF) to Support the Buffering of M-290 Shipping Containers with A1G Spent Nuclear Fuel Assemblies Project covers temporary control system upgrades and modifications at the CSRF so the facility can operate as a radiological facility to support unloading A1G spent nuclear fuel assemblies from M290 shipping containers, and repackaging of the fuel assemblies into canisters and protective overpacks for temporary storage (i.e., buffering) until the fuel assemblies can be processed at a later date in the Naval Spent Fuel Handling Facility.

The scope of the Facility Storage Area General Plant Project includes constructing a permanent foundation for a modular steel building approximately 200 square feet in size.

The scope of the project includes modifying the current electrical system to manage the electrical loads more efficiently.

The purpose is to provide additional office space to accommodate the projected increase in NRF personnel over the next 10 years.
